more Beaches...
I was messing around in the darkroom yesterday, on these old but unseen photos of Beaches in the studio. This was late last year at Head Gap in Melbourne.

1996
Last night I was in the darkroom, and came across this neg whilst looking for something else. I remember it well and can't believe it has been 15 years since I took this photo. Suburban Newcastle, backyard party, at 16 years old. We were just kids, yet we thought we were so cool! Oh dear.
I would like to get around to printing more photos I took as a teenager, however most of them are of people skateboarding - an obsession of mine back then it seems

Dad's forgotten films - part 1
My Dad has always been a photography enthusiast. Recently he posted me a box of about 20 undeveloped black and white films, and asked if I would occasionally develop one if I happened to have room in the tank at the time. The first one I chose to do last night was labeled 'Camera Club Models', I was secretly hoping for some nudey 70's pin ups (as I remember finding some similar prints in the cupboard when I was younger), alas, I absolutely love these following portraits.

Now on at: The Arts Centre, Melbourne
Today, a new exhibition opens at The Arts Centre in Melbourne. From the Arts Centre website, 'Rock Chicks - An exhibition' takes you backstage via event footage, costumes, instruments, lyrics, sets, posters and sounds to meet the women who kick started, shaped and continue to drive full-speed through the Australian music landscape.
Representing women in girl groups, punk, new wave, pub, hard rock, indie rock and even folk and jazz – this is a curatorial mixed-tape of the most impressive.'
What's really exciting is that featured in this huge exhibition, is Beaches! The photograph I took, above, of Beaches earlier this year is part of the show. I was also lucky enough to have the photograph purchased for the Performing Arts Collection, which is recognised as a State collection, and is the nation's premier specialist performing arts collection relating to the history of circus, dance, music, opera and theatre in Australia.
The exhibition runs from 6 November 2010 until 27 February 2011 in Gallery 1 and Gallery 2 of The Arts Centre complex on St Kilda Rd, Melbourne.

Portrait Exhibition
In just a few short weeks a new exhibition will open at C3 Gallery in Abbotsford, Victoria.
Two x Two is a collaborative portraiture project by Melbourne photographers Karl Scullin and myself, Lauren Bamford. Each of us presenting a unique portrayal of the coterie of Melbourne's emergent artistic subculture - with the common theme of 'two'.
I will be exhibiting 34 environmental portraits - in pairs. The similarities and dissimilarities between the paired photographs may allude to the personal relationship between each individual and myself, the photographer.
Karl's series of colour portraits depict two individuals within every frame. They are images taken from 10 years of documenting subjects from very different projects, be it CD covers or family. The strength and interest of these images comes from the dynamic between these characters.
It opens on Wednesday 23rd June, at 6pm, and runs for 3 weeks. If you are in the Melbourne area - please come along! The gardens and buildings at the Convent are truly lovely, and if you have never visited - now could be the time.
My lovely Keith was kind enough to create an event over at Facebook if you are so inclined.
