2012 sees me move into a new working space of my very own. It's a 'blank canvas'. Floorboards, white walls, high ceilings and a big skylight which casts some beautiful and moody shadows as the day progresses. Having this studio space allows me the freedom to shoot more of anything and everything. Portrait sittings, still lifes, food, look books - you name it. Each month has a full-page colour photograph, seasonal information (Southern Hemisphere only). Tied with Butchers twine, the calendar has a seasonal specific recipe card for every month. The cards can be torn out and pasted into your cooking journal or kept in your recipe archive.

An adorable A5 size. The calendar is printed on FSC 100% recycled paper.
Limited edition. The 2011 calendar sold out within the week.

Last night I was in the darkroom, and came across this neg whilst looking for something else. I remember it well and can't believe it has been 15 years since I took this photo. Suburban Newcastle, backyard party, at 16 years old. We were just kids, yet we thought we were so cool! Oh dear.

An exhibition of new photographs, 'Neither excluded nor included' officially opens this Friday night 9th September at 6pm at Mr Kitly in Melbourne.

Mr Kitly is located at 381 Sydney Road, Brunswick (upstairs). The show runs until 25th September, and the gallery is open Thursday - Sunday. A facebook event has been created here (let me know if that link doesn't work).

These are some extra images from my visit to the most excellent Mr Kitly shop and gallery, which features in 'Mode' this issue. It's a wonderful space, tucked away upstairs on Sydney Road, Brunswick - coincidentally the gallery is playing host to my upcoming exhibition 'Neither Excluded Nor Included', which opens next Friday 9th September (more to come on that later).

Earlier this year I was approached by a student from Photography Studies College (PSC) in Melbourne in regards to acting as a mentor throughout her final year. As a result of this, I have donated a limited edition signed print to a Silent Auction being held at the College this Friday evening. The proceeds from the auction will go towards the end of year exhibition for the graduating students.

This could be a great opportunity for you to purchase an original piece from such photographers as John Gollings, Max Creasy, Samantha Everton and Matthew Sleeth - to name but a few.

Peter Conrad ‘Down Home, Revisiting Tasmania’

'I hope you choke' is a photographic documentary of Tasmanian roadside produce stands and farm gate landscapes. It is a collection of photographs loaded with contradictions. A romanticised social commentary of a dying concept, despite the growing popularity and need for self sustainable living.

These images are faithful and Australian. Even more so these scenes are unique to Tasmania. An offshore island of an offshore continent, regularly omitted from maps of Australia – a lonely and savagely beautiful place, severed from the main land by a rising sea level over 10,000 years ago. Such isolation produces an ache of self doubt, a suspicion of solipsism which has the tendency to evoke an air of unease and discontent.
